Sunday School

The Sunday School Ministry has as its primary objective to serve the Lord as it fulfills the Mission and Vision of Oak Shade Baptist Church. The specific areas of the vision that this ministry is actively directing its efforts are:

    Equiping Godly leaders

Fostering a 'can do' spirit and attitude throughout membership.

    Building strong families

Preparing youth spiritually, morally, culturally and academically.

Making Oak Shade a resource for the memberships and the community.

Ensuring excellence in our Service, witness and worship.

The following activities are being conducted by this ministry toward that end:

  • Teaching of God's word every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM to Adults (18 and older), Senior high students (15 - 18), Junior High students (12 - 14), Junior students (9 - 11), Primary students (6 - 8) and Pre-schoolers (3-5).

  • Presentations and/or reports of the lesson are given to the congregation by designated classes or individuals every Sunday.

  • All lessons are based on the same central theme; therefore, each family can study, prepare and discuss the same lesson.

  • One of the youth from the Junior High class is the secretary for the Sunday School Ministry and is responsible for giving the Sunday School minutes to the congregation each Sunday.

  • Monthly teachers meeting (1st Sunday of the month) at 8:30 AM

  • Attends the Greater Washington Christian Education Association Convention, which is held in January at High Point High School (Beltsville, Maryland).

  • Promotion of students and certificate of achievement awarded.

  • classroom training for new teacher.

  • Yearly Sunday School picnic and Christmas play.
